Tribute Artists vs Original Music: Bringing Original Music To Light!

The Vegas music scene is a wild, neon‑lit beast! Loud on the surface, louder underneath, and full of stories that never make it past the bar chatter. Everyone talks about tribute bands ruling Las Vegas while original music gets shoved behind the curtain, but I’ve been lucky enough to hear what really goes down. As a rock writer, I get the inside track on the locals who bleed their own songs into the desert air. Some of those tracks live only in their heads, some make it to the bar‑room stages, and a few Vegas bands cranking out their own original fire are perched right on the edge of blowing the doors off this town and launching themselves straight onto the long, winding highways of the touring circuit! $$$$

I’ve heard original tunes that hit harder than half the stuff being covered in this city. In my opinion, some of these songs are so strong that they stand a good chance of becoming tributes someday. A lot of these artists are already pushing their originals onto platforms like Spotify and Bandcamp, which is a killer start, but they still need ears, attention, and a spotlight that actually points them in the right direction to fans that dig the original songs.

Here's where I usually say it's My Take; this time, it's my little experiment with your help.

So, here’s the deal. I’ve got a little blog with a not‑so‑little audience, some friends in high places, and people who seem to pay attention when I talk.

Vegas musicians & bands:

If you’re out there grinding, writing, recording, and dropping original tracks, send me your links. Shoot me your songs, your contact info, and let’s talk. I’ll blast your music out to the world through my platform and make sure your originals don’t stay hidden in the shadows.

Vegas bands. Vegas songwriters. Vegas creators. If you’ve got the fire, I’ll help carry the flame!

It's on you now. Message me on Facebook or hit me up with an email: garyenglandemail@gmail.com

Guarding Your Brand: What Every Tribute Band Should Do When A Name Conflict Hits!

{This blog article is based on a real-life situation}

Imagine spending years building your tribute band, perfecting the look, the sound, the stage presence, the branding. You’ve poured countless hours into marketing, promoting shows, and carving out your identity in a crowded scene. Then one day, a brand‑new group pops up using the exact same band name you’ve worked so hard to establish.

Is it an honest mistake… or is someone trying to ride the wave you created? Either way, it puts you in a tough spot. So, the real question becomes: What should your band do to protect their name, their reputation, and the work they’ve invested so much time in?

So, I checked with my friends in legal, and this is what they said:

Check your trademark status — If you’ve trademarked the name, you’re already in the strongest position. If you haven’t, you may still have rights through usage, especially if you’ve been active and visible for years.

Document your history — Gather proof of how long you’ve used the name: flyers, posters, social media posts, show listings, contracts, press mentions. This becomes your evidence if things escalate.

Reach out professionally — Sometimes it is an honest mistake. A polite, direct message explaining the conflict can resolve it quickly without drama.

Offer alternatives — If the other band is reasonable, they may be open to modifying their name (adding a location, era, or descriptor) to avoid confusion.

Secure your digital footprint — Lock down your website domain, social handles, and Google Business listing. The stronger your online presence, the harder it is for anyone to overshadow you.

Consult an entertainment attorney — If the other band refuses to change their name and it’s hurting your bookings or reputation, a lawyer can send a formal cease‑and‑desist letter.

Communicate with venues — Let your regular venues know about the situation so they don’t accidentally book or promote the wrong band under your name.

Strengthen your branding — Double down on your visuals, logo, tagline, and online consistency. The more recognizable you are, the less confusion

Stay professional — Avoid public drama. Fans and venues respect bands that handle business with maturity and confidence.

{My Take}

In the end, your band’s name isn’t just a label — it’s your identity, your brand, and the legacy you’ve built one show at a time. When another group steps into your lane, intentionally or not, you have every right to protect what you’ve earned. Handle it professionally, document everything, and take the steps that keep your reputation solid and your momentum moving forward. The tribute scene thrives on respect, authenticity, and hard work — and no one should be allowed to rewrite the story you’ve already written.

Las Vegas Local Music Scene Reloaded: Local Music Venues That Have Taken The Spotlight In Las Vegas

After the closings of Count's Vamp'd late last month, and Club Madrid inside Sunset Station Hotel just a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure that most local music fans (Including myself) have been eagerly waiting for another music venue or two to step up and fill the void in our local music scene as far as showcasing local bands is concerned. I'm here today to recognize two of these music venues that have stepped up their game and have taken the lead in booking shows with our local music talent (Bands).

There are a dozen or so local music venues around town that you can count on that always bring their A Game, supporting our local music scene and bands. Two of these venues really have caught my attention this past month.

Beginning with the Tuscany Suites Casino.

When I looked at their Facebook page and website, I've got to say that Tuscany's entertainment calendar is really impressive! They've got a show for every music taste there is! Plus, they shine the bright spotlights on our local music scene and bands! Take a look at their upcoming calendar for August, and you'll see just what I mean.

Another music venue (Awesome Restaurant) that stands out in Las Vegas and has my attention is the Bootlegger Italian Bistro

Talking about turning the volume up in our local music scene! The Bootlegger Spotlights Live Entertainment every night of the week!

Bootlegger Entertainment

Plus, with the emergence of MOTORMOUTH Promotions (July 25th Music Presentation). Check out the event flyer above. I expect the Bootlegger Bistro to be a leader in the Las Vegas Music and Entertainment scenes for many years in the future!

Delicious food, live entertainment every night of the week, and MOTORMOUTH Promotions handling local bands' promotions. Looks like Las Vegas has another winner!

Sending out big thanks to the Tuscany and to the Bootlegger Italian Bistro for helping keep live music alive in Las Vegas!

How Las Vegas Music Trends Have Evolved From 2015 Until today

In one of my previous blogs, I discussed the popularity of Classic Rock music in Las Vegas.

Today, I'm going to compare the different music genres over the last 10 years. (2015 to 2025)

Which music genres are more popular with the fans since 2015, and which music genres are losing ground?

Here's a "Recent" side-by-side comparison of the most popular music genres in Las Vegas in 2015 vs. 2025, based on live performances, residencies, club trends, and audience demographics:

Las Vegas Music Genre Popularity: 2015 vs. 2025

20152025
1Pop – Britney Spears, Celine Dion

1. Pop – Adele, Madonna, U2
2EDM – Calvin Harris, TiĆ«sto

2. EDM – Zedd, Steve Aoki, Dom Dolla
3Classic Rock / Rock – Raiding the Rock Vault, Hard Rock shows

3. Hip-Hop / Rap – Usher, Travis Scott, club hosts
4Hip-Hop / R&B – Drai’s, 1OAK nights

4. Classic Rock / Rock – tribute bands, House of Blues, The Strat
5Country – Reba, Brooks & Dunn

5. Country – Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan
6
Jazz / Lounge / Crooner
– legacy shows in lounges

6. Latin – Bad Bunny, Peso Pluma, Karol G
7Latin – smaller club presence

7. R&B / Soul – SZA, Usher, The Weekend influence

8Metal / Hard Rock – Vamp’d, local shows

8. Jazz / Crooner – still alive in lounges & The Smith Center

9Tribute Bands – popular with locals

9. Tribute Bands / Variety – still thriving at off-Strip venues

10—10. K-Pop / Global Pop – small but growing fandom presence

Key Changes (2015 ➡ 2025):

  • Hip-Hop surged ahead, going from 4th to 3rd due to its stronger mainstream and nightlife appeal.

  • Latin music made a major leap, moving from niche to mainstream thanks to global stars and demographic shifts.

  • Classic Rock dropped slightly, but it still holds strong with locals and aging tourists despite the closure of some key venues like Count's Vamp’d & Club Madrid Sunset Station Hotel.

  • Pop remains dominant, especially on the Strip, driven by high-dollar residencies and global tourist demand.

  • EDM held its ground, but it's now part of a broader nightlife blend with Hip-Hop and Latin.

  • Jazz and Crooner styles declined in ranking, though still culturally significant in upscale lounges.

  • Tribute bands remain a unique Vegas staple, providing a consistent draw across off-Strip and Station Casino venues.

Comparing the most popular music genres in Las Vegas from 2015 to 2025 highlights the city’s constant evolution while preserving its entertainment roots. Pop and EDM continue to dominate the Strip with high-profile residencies and club scenes, but the rise of hip-hop and Latin music reflects a younger, more diverse audience shaping the sound of modern Vegas. Meanwhile, classic rock and tribute bands maintain a loyal fan base among locals and nostalgic tourists, even as the landscape shifts. This decade-long transition underscores Las Vegas’ unique ability to blend timeless classics with emerging trends, making it a dynamic music capital that caters to every generation.

As for me, I'm still a classic rocker!
