Classic Rock Friday Explosive Metal Saturday: Las Vegas At Full Volume This Weekend!

 This weekend on garyengland.com, the city is getting a two‑night sonic beating delivered by two of the most respected bands working today, each in a venue built to amplify their signature chaos.

Tonight: Friday at 9 PM, inside the Chrome Showroom at the Santa Fe Station, Yellow Brick Road takes over. One of the longest‑running, most beloved rock institutions locally in Las Vegas. They don’t just play classic rock; they resurrect it with arena‑grade precision, soaring vocals, and guitar work sharp enough to slice through the neon haze. The Chrome Showroom’s tight acoustics and chrome‑trimmed glow turn their set into a time‑warp back to the golden age of stadium rock, where every chorus feels like a victory lap, and every riff hits like a memory you forgot you missed!

Then tomorrow night, Saturday at 8 PM, the entire vibe detonates as Queensrÿche storms into the Club Showroom inside the Cannery Casino Hotel in North Las Vegas. This is a progressive metal royalty band that built its legacy on technical firepower, operatic intensity, and dark, cinematic storytelling. Their live show is a full‑scale metal assault, engineered with surgical precision and delivered with the kind of force that makes the walls vibrate. The Club Showroom is the perfect battleground for their sound: close, loud, and designed to let every kick drum thump and every guitar line slice straight through the crowd.

Classic Rock Friday. Explosive Metal Saturday.

One legendary local band grinding its legacy into the Local Las Vegas music scene, one show at a time, and one band whose legacy is welded into the very genre they helped create!

Right Time Right Place And Work Your Butt Off: The Road To Discovery In The Music Industry

Classic rock and country don’t just lead the tribute & cover‑band world — they rule it like outlaw kings. The crowds crave it, Vegas management eats it up, and every weekend this town turns into a neon‑lit proving ground for musicians who are one lucky break away from the big stage. These players aren’t hobbyists; they’re what I call “Right Time, Right Place” musicians — the kind of artists who, when the right set of eyes and ears lock onto them, they disappear overnight and reappear on a tour bus headed straight for rock stardom! After conversations with some movers & shakers in the music industry, and a few heavy-duty rockers in the biz. Here is what they said.

Vegas doesn’t hand out fame — it tests you, breaks you in, and then dares you to rise above the neon noise. The musicians who make the leap from local legend to rising star are the ones who treat every stage like a launchpad and every crowd like a scouting session. This city is a pressure cooker for talent, and the decision‑makers — the producers, bookers, A&R hunters, festival curators — are always scanning for the next spark loud enough to shake the industry. The fast track isn’t about luck alone; it’s about showing up everywhere, sounding unmistakably like yourself, keeping your digital footprint razor‑sharp, and flooding the world with your music until the right ears finally lock in. Vegas rewards the bold, the relentless, and the artists who play like the spotlight is already theirs!

Local musicians who want to get seen by the power players of the music industry have to attack the Vegas grind like it’s a nightly audition for the rest of their lives. That means playing relentlessly — every bar, lounge, festival, jam night, anywhere a stage and a power outlet exist — because the more you show up, the more chances you create for the right set of eyes to land on you. It means carving out a signature sound that punches through the noise and makes people remember you after one song, not ten. It means keeping your social media sharp and professional, dropping high‑quality recordings that prove you’re the real deal, and getting your music on Spotify and every major platform so industry scouts can find you even when they’re not in the room. It means networking with intent, showing up at showcases and songwriter nights where gatekeepers actually gather, collaborating with other artists to expand your reach, and building a loyal local following that packs rooms and forces people to pay attention. In Vegas, the musicians who rise are the ones who stay loud, stay visible, and stay ready — because the moment opportunity walks through the door, you don’t get a second chance to hit that first note.

{My Take}

At the end of the day, breaking out of the local circuit isn’t magic — it’s momentum. The musicians who rise are the ones who grind harder, play louder, stay visible, and treat every night like the universe might be watching. Rock stardom has always been a cocktail of sweat, timing, and a little cosmic luck — but the legends remind us that luck only shows up for the ones who never stop swinging. As Tom Petty said, “You have to work hard. You have to give it everything.” And Billy Idol nailed it even cleaner: “Luck comes from working your ass off.” Keep pushing, keep playing, keep showing up — because in Vegas, the break comes fast, and the ones who earn it are the ones who never stop chasing the spark.

The Power Of One Shot Under The Spotlight: How Greatness Reveals Itself!

Chances to step into the spotlight don’t come around often, and for some, they never come at all. So, when a musician, entertainer, or athlete finally finds themselves in the right place at the right time, there’s only one move: show up at your absolute best. Nail the audition. Crush the tryout. Deliver the moment that people can remember!

Just look at Anika Nilles and her debut performance with Rush earlier this year at the Juno Awards, a pressure-cooker situation where the whole world was watching, and she absolutely killed it! That’s what it looks like when preparation meets opportunity, and the universe says, it's "Your turn, go get it.”

Anika's not alone. History is full of musicians, artists, and athletes who got one shot at the big stage and made it count. Here are more killer “right place, right time, don’t-blow-this” spotlight moments across music, entertainment, and sports. These are the people who stepped into the heat and walked out legends!

Dave Grohl stepped into Nirvana at 21 and instantly redefined the band’s sound.

Bruno Mars turned a single SNL performance into his launchpad for global superstardom.

Kurt Warner went from stocking grocery shelves to Super Bowl MVP the moment he finally got his chance in professional football.

Lady Gaga transformed a last‑minute VMA performance slot into a career-defining shockwave.

Queen at Live Aid 1985. One 20‑minute set that turned them from musicians into immortal rock stars.

Tom Brady stepping in for an injured Drew Bledsoe and never giving the job back! Seven rings later, the rest is history.

Prince performed the Super Bowl halftime show in the rain and somehow made it look intentional.

  • Simone Biles At the 2016 Olympics, the moment she became the greatest gymnast of all time.

  • Metallica opening for Ozzy in 1986, the tour that turned them from underground thrash kings into mainstream monsters!

  • The pattern is clear. Greatness doesn’t wait for perfect timing; it erupts the moment preparation meets opportunity. These moments remind us that the spotlight doesn’t create greatness — it reveals it.

  • {My Take}

  • In every generation, a few performers rise not because the world handed them an easy path, but because when the spotlight finally swung their way, they were ready. They stepped up, locked in, and delivered the kind of moment that rewrites careers and cements legacies. From Anika Nilles’ explosive debut with Rush to the countless artists and athletes who turned a single opportunity into a lifetime of momentum, the message is the same: when your moment comes, you don’t just show up — you show out. And in the end, that’s what separates the memorable from the legendary, the ones who seize their moment and never let it go!

    The Long Road To Rock Stardom Why Some Artists Rise While Others Fade!

     Talking music & entertainment talent:

    I’ve been a music, entertainment, and sportswriter (and ghostwriter) since 1968. In that time, I’ve watched an unbelievable number of bands and musicians with real, undeniable talent. Some climbed all the way to the big stages and bright lights. Others, just as gifted, never made it past the local circuit.

    It wasn’t a question of talent. Many of them had the chops, the charisma, and the skill set to rise to full‑blown rock stardom. So why did some break through while others stalled out?

    Instead of relying only on my own opinion, I reached out to people (longtime friends) across the industry, promoters, producers, touring musicians, agents, venue managers, and long‑time insiders to get their take on why certain artists make it, and others don’t. Here's what they said:

    Some acts rise, and others fade because the music business rewards far more than raw talent; it rewards work ethic, branding, timing, networking, and that unpredictable, lightning‑in‑a‑bottle magic that no one can fully explain. The artists who make it usually out‑hustle, out‑promote, and out‑connect the ones who don’t. They show up early, stay late, treat every gig like an audition, and build a brand that fans can instantly recognize. Timing plays a huge role, being in the right city, with the right sound, at the exact moment the industry is hungry for it. And yes, luck absolutely plays a part. One chance meeting, one canceled headliner, one viral clip, one industry insider in the room on the right night can change everything. But even luck needs something to land on. That’s where the “It Factor” comes in, that unteachable mix of presence, charisma, authenticity, and emotional electricity that makes an audience lean forward before the first chorus hits. It’s not just talent; it’s magnetism. It’s the difference between someone who performs music and someone who becomes the music the moment they step onstage.

    {My Take}

    Since relocating to the Entertainment Capital of the World in 1999, I’ve seen countless bands that had everything they needed to break out — talent, drive, stage presence, and the kind of chemistry you can’t fake. But the biggest reason many local acts never make it past the Vegas scene is simple: a handful of them do everything right at first, then lose steam too quickly. They push hard, build momentum, start getting noticed… and then stop just short of the finish line. Maybe they burned out, maybe life got in the way, or maybe they didn’t give their talent enough time to be discovered by the world beyond Las Vegas. In just the last couple of years, I’ve watched several bands with real potential stall out right when the door was starting to crack open — a reminder that in this business, consistency and endurance matter just as much as talent!

    In this business, even the biggest names didn’t rocket to fame overnight. Aerosmith spent years grinding through tiny clubs before anyone outside Boston cared. Bon Jovi played every Jersey bar that would have them long before “Runaway” finally cracked the radio. KISS hauled their own gear, slept in vans, and got rejected by every major label before the makeup, the fire, and the spectacle finally caught on. Even Journey didn’t explode until years into their career when the right voice and the right song collided at the right moment. The truth is, discovery takes time — sometimes a long time — and the artists who make it are the ones who refuse to stop showing up.

    Remember: the moment that you quit trying, or slow down your efforts, might be the moment right before the bright lights hit you!

    Ace Frehley: The Pulse Behind the Paint

    Yesterday, the world lost Ace Frehley!

    My pop art creation, along with what I said on Facebook this morning, pretty much says it all for me.

    {My Facebook Post From this morning}

    (We) Will Never Forget!
    I followed these four amazing music artists, Rock Stars, throughout my media career. It's kind a' like we grew up together. These four amazing people are a big part of why I'm still covering music in my 70's. Yes, you'll always live inside of me 🙂 #Ace #Ozzy #Tom #Eddie #popart #caricature #painting

    {More of my thoughts}

    Ace Frehley, known as "The Spaceman," was more than just the original lead guitarist of KISS, he was a cosmic force who electrified rock music with his raw talent, rebellious spirit, and otherworldly persona. Fans connected deeply with his unfiltered authenticity, blistering solos, and the sense of mystery he brought to the stage.

    As a founding member of one of rock’s most iconic bands, Ace Frehley helped shape the sound and spectacle of an era, inspiring generations of musicians and fans alike. His legacy is etched into the DNA of rock history, and his passing leaves a void that reverberates far beyond the music world!

    I (we) will never forget you, Ace!

    Motivation Behind the Fame What Fuels Las Vegas Top Musicians Athletes And Celebrities To Push On In Their Careers

     I've been around professional athletes, very talented musicians, and awesome celebrities almost all of my life. I first started in the media field in the summer of 1968 and never looked back. A lifetime of being around exceptionally talented people who possessed motivation, inspiration, and a drive far beyond that of mortal men and women.

    Being the Entertainment Capital Of The World, Las Vegas is home to many famous people, whether they’re top musicians, celebrities, show talent, or professional athletes. They all draw motivation and Inspiration from somewhere or something. "It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it", right?

    After talking with many of these exceptional people, here are some of the motivators that drive them to push on in their careers.

    Above all, most famous individuals start with a genuine love for what they do. Whether it's performing, competing, creating, or entertaining, passion is the engine that fuels long-term success.

    Famous people often use their platform to influence culture, spark conversations, raise awareness, or support causes they care about. The ability to reach and inspire others can be a major motivator.

    Many of these people are highly competitive and goal-oriented. They want to reach the top of their field, break records, win awards, or create a legacy that stands the test of time.

    Fame often opens the door to wealth, and financial independence can be a powerful motivator, especially for those who came from humble beginnings or want to take care of their families.

    Being seen, admired, or celebrated for one’s work can be deeply rewarding. For some, external validation from fans, peers, or critics becomes a major source of motivation.

    Fame gives people the freedom to be themselves, share their story, and shape their image. Many are motivated by the opportunity to express who they truly are, or who they want to become.

    Staying relevant is not easy. Famous people are often driven by the thrill of reinvention, proving themselves again, exploring new roles, or redefining their public image.

    Many celebrities find purpose in giving back, whether through charity, mentoring, or using their voice to amplify others. Once they reach a certain level of success, impact often becomes more important than applause.

    In the end, what motivates these special people is a powerful blend of passion, purpose, and persistence. While the spotlight may shine brightly on their success, it's the love for their craft, the desire to connect with others, and the drive to leave a lasting mark that truly fuel their journey. Fame might open doors, but it's the fire within that keeps them moving forward, creating, evolving, and inspiring the world around them.

    What's my inspiration or motivation for writing as long as I have? My mother was a nurse and loved helping out people through her medical career. My father was a professional musician who loved music most in his life. Guess I can say that my motivation and inspiration for me being a music and entertainment journalist for all these years is because of my parents.

    What's your motivation or Inspiration for doing what you do?

    Comments welcomed :-)

    Bands That Changed Their Names Before Hitting It Big In The Music Industry What's In A Band's Name Anyway.

    Being a music and entertainment journalist, I get to see a lot of bands in Las Vegas. Both touring bands and local bands that call Las Vegas their home. Sometimes these bands are new to me. So, what do I look for when I'm faced with picking out a band to go see that I haven't ever seen before? I start with what genre of music they perform. Who's in the band? Then I look at the band's name. Much of the time, those three things tell me if I want to go see them or not. For me, I love classic rock music. That's a given. And I do have my favorite musicians and Rock Stars. Next, what's so important about the name of the band?

    Sure, the genre of music and who plays in the band are important.  But what's so important about the band's name?

    A band's name is often the first impression they make on their fans. It can instantly set a vibe, hint at their style, their attitude, or even their sense of humor.
    A great name can make a band more memorable, more marketable, and sometimes even define their legacy.

    Here are three examples of what I'm talking about.

    Metallica sounds powerful and heavy, perfect for a metal band.

    Nirvana suggests something deeper and spiritual, fitting for their grunge sound.

    The Rolling Stones immediately sound cool, restless, and rebellious.

    On the flip side, a bad or confusing name can hold a band back, making them harder to sell, harder to find online, or just not connecting with their audience.

    That’s why a lot of bands tweak or totally change their names before they really blow up. Like These. I think that you'll know them.

    The Quarrymen ➔ The Beatles

    (They went through a few names like Johnny and the Moondogs before landing on The Beatles.)

    Mighty Joe Young ➔ Stone Temple Pilots

    (They had to change it because of legal issues with the name.)

    The Polka Tulk Blues Band ➔ Black Sabbath

    (They also tried Earth for a while before finally settling on Black Sabbath.)

    Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem ➔ Red Hot Chili Peppers

    (Yeah, that's a mouthful—good call shortening it!)

    Sweet Children ➔ Green Day

    (They changed it to avoid confusion with another local band.)

    The New Yardbirds ➔ Led Zeppelin

    (Jimmy Page had to rename the project after legal pressure.)

    On A Friday ➔ Radiohead

    (They changed it when they signed to EMI; “On A Friday” referred to the day they practiced.)

    Kara’s Flowers ➔ Maroon 5

    (New name, new style, and boom, mega success.)

    Screaming Abdabs ➔ Pink Floyd

    (They also went by a few other names before landing on Pink Floyd.)

    The Pendletones ➔ The Beach Boys

    (Their label changed their name without even asking them!)

    {My Take}

    At the end of the day, a name is just the beginning of a band's story — but it can be a powerful one. Whether it’s a bold reinvention or a subtle tweak, the right name can capture a band's spirit, set the stage for their music, and help them connect with the world. So next time you hear a legendary name like Led Zeppelin or The Beatles, remember they weren't born famous — they found the right name and grew into it. What's in a band's name, anyway? Sometimes it's everything!
